About Kaaren Talty

Kaaren Talty passed away in 2007 having lived in the Canberra region for 35 years. She had a life-long love of love of mainly traditional jazz music - something she acquired in the 1940's when she was growing up on the west coast of the USA. Kaaaren played many of the brass instruments during her life - most recently the euphonium in the Weston Creek Community Band. One of her daughters - Sandra - has taken up the jazz theme with gusto and is well known as part of the Sweet Lowdowns, The Creole Bells, and the Red Hot Rhythm Makers. Kaaren's family has established an annual encouragement award for jazz musicians to help young Canberra musicians learn to appreciate the depths of jazz the way Kaaren did. Kaaren was also Webmaster for a period of five years; her thoroughness and attention to detail is evident in the site's effectiveness. The memorial fund also provides for continued hosting of the Internet site.
