WHAT DO THE BAND OF THE ROYAL MILITARY COLLEGE DUNTROON, HALL VILLAGE BRASS BAND AND A ROCK BAND CALLED POISONED YOUTH HAVE IN COMMON?

Thousands of local and interstate musicians are in the final stages of preparations for the annual Australian National Eisteddfod Society - Bands and Orchestras Eisteddfod to be held across 4 locations in Canberra from 28-31 May.

The event encompasses a broad range of musical styles – concert bands, jazz bands, brass bands, rock bands and orchestras.  From Schubert to Sousa, Gershwin to Grainger – the Eisteddfod has it all.

Over 3,000 individuals will perform over the four days. While the majority of performers are from the Canberra region, including leading ACT school and community groups, there are also a number of interstate performers from Melbourne, Sydney, the Hunter Valley and Jindabyne.

In previous years the Band of the Royal Military College Duntroon has had budding musicians and audiences enthralled during their demonstration performance. This year they will be performing on the afternoon of Saturday 30 May and will be sure to draw a large audience again.

Saturday 30 May’s activities in Llewellyn Hall (ANU School of Music) include several highlights:

Demonstration performance by Band of the Royal Military College at 4.30pm
Open Brass Bands section commencing at 6pm, featuring the local Hall Village Brass Band and Willoughby Brass Band from Sydney
Open Concert Bands sections from 7.30pm, with performances by local favourites including Ginninderra Wind Orchestra, Canberra City Band and last years defending champions Hunter Central Coast  Regional Wind Ensemble amongst the entrants.

Full program for the event follows this media release.

Tickets for all events will be available at the door.  Tickets for Llewellyn Hall events are also available for pre-purchase through Ticketek (transaction fees may apply).
